You know, this probably isn't that important or anything, but I kinda noticed this trend the other day. Like, whenever someone brings up self-defense, it's always magic or some sort of weapon.

Maybe... No, I'm pretty sure this is a biased opinion, but why doesn't anyone ever ask to learn martial arts? I'm not gonna stupidly start yelling that martial arts is the best, but, it's got it's advantages over magic and weapons, right?

I guess, well, I'm just complaining that I never hear someone say "Let me learn martial arts!" when it comes to protecting themselves. I don't think I'd like, be the best teacher, but, I probably could get someone started... that is, if I'm not the only one.

[Momentarily speechless.] ... I'm sorry, but positive thinking doesn't seem like much of a solution right now.

Well, it happened more than a year ago. I mean, it was hardly fun looking like a monster or anything, but it's really not going to do any good moping around about it. It's not like I can turn into that just at any time. Only my cat form.

Besides, if positive thinking isn't going to help, what would?

Uriko... We've been kidnapped. We're being held prisoner. Our friends are stolen and experimented on... What about fighting back? [Isn't that how this conversation started? With the subject of self-defense?]

Yeah, I know that. I've been here for like, two years already. There's not a whole lot we can really do without waiting for our chance to do it. Even on top of being kidnapped to here, some people get kidnapped for worse experiments and such.

So if these things have that kind of power, there's not much we can do right now. If you look back at when I came, yeah, there's been a LOT of progress, and we're finally getting to fight back now, but... It's all just a waiting game. And not everyone has the ability to fight.

Look at it this way, if there was nothing you could do, would you rather stir in your cage and have a panic attack over it, or, make the best of what you've got around you.

*sigh* I'm not good at this philosophy stuff man. I can't expect you to like, treat it the way I do or anything...

Look, Uriko... I understand the value of waiting for the right moment. There's no point wasting your energy on a target that won't yield. But I've been taken prisoner many times, and I have never sat around just 'making the best of it' and hoping things would change.

I was in an alien prison once. I stole a key from the guards and almost escaped. Then they forced me into a fighting ring. I took their Prime Leader hostage and left the planet in his private spaceship. Months later they found me again, and tortured me, but I fought back then too and they didn't break me.

What I'm saying is... I may still be new to Luceti, but I'm not new to these kinds of situations. And it really scares me to see people getting complacent, and getting comfortable. Because you can make the best of a bad situation... but a bad situation can always get worse.

Yeah, I know all that. I mean, we shouldn't be getting comfortable, but, things... I mean, living conditions keep improving as more people show up. Yes, it's captivity, but, not everybody here has the ability or know-how to fight back, or resist. And from what I hear, like, an old roommate of mine, this is a better alternative than being dead.

Yes, I know. The living conditions here really are better than - well, even than where I come from. But - you do realize how quickly the Malnosso could kill us all, right? Waiting is a dangerous game.
